Heat Network Guide

This design guide brings together in a single document the key objectives and engineering principles involved in the design of heat networks. CIBSE Code of Practice CP1 2015 Heat Networks: Code of Practice for the UK states:

“If heat networks are to form a significant part of our future low carbon energy infrastructure in the UK then they need to be designed, built and operated to a high quality to deliver customer satisfaction.”

CP1 sets minimum and best practice standards for heat network design.  This guide explains the relevance of those standards and offers possible solutions for compliance.  The same solutions can be applied to any heating or chilled water system where the intention is to incorporate heat from low carbon heat sources.

The guide draws together experience from network designers, manufacturers and installers. The guide was completed independently by the author working with a voluntary steering group of network design specialists.
